Brenda's Rott-N-Cats

Hi I am Brenda, Claudia's Web Designer and I would like to thank Claudia for letting me use some of her web space until I get my own web site back up and running.

My husband just got me a new digital camera so for the past day I have been worrying my Rott-N-Cats.  They have learned to close their eyes when they see me coming with the camera.

 Tigger

Tigger

Tigger is the Queen of the house.  Bobby found her when she was to young to be weaned and I raised her on a bottle.  I say I raised her but really it was a couple of my old Rottie girls that did the most work. Tigger is now over 8 years old and has no idea that she is a cat.  As far as she is concerned she is a Rottweiler.

A very big part of me went to Rainbow Bridge last year and it was a loss that I am not sure I will ever get over. I still call his name nearly everyday.  Cajun came to live with us when he was around 5 weeks old and I lost him when he was around 3 years old.  He had always had health problems that I was told was normal for the Manx breed and I was hoping that he would out grow them as he got older but he never did.

In the photo on the bottom right you see him doing what he loved best.  He would just walk up to Poppins and fall down and she would start giving him love bites as I called it.  Boy did he love this.

After losing Cajun I wanted to go out and find another kitten but my husband wanted me to wait for a while so I did but I kept calling the animal shelters and looking at ads in the paper.  One day I saw an ad for some Siamese kittens and I have always loved the breed.

I really didn't want to get a kitten from a breeder since I didn't want a kitten that had been given shots and also this kitten was older and I wasn't sure if he would work out with the Rotties but I decided to talked Bobby into taking me over to see the kittens and the breeder brought in 2 kittens.

One was a Siamese but he was very shy and I didn't think that would work in my house with the Rottweilers.  The other kitten that she brought in was a littermate to the shy one but this one was a Balinese and he was so outgoing and into everything.

As I already said I didn't really want to get a kitten from a breeder but I knew that the kitten would not be given anymore shots at my house and he would be fed a raw diet for the rest of his life plus I sure did like this boy so Bobby told me that he would be a early birthday present so Frodo came home with us.  I am a huge Lord of the Rings fan so that is how he got his name.

The New Members Of Our Family

A few months ago Bobby came in and told me to look out the front door but to be very quite. I went and peaked out the door and there on our deck was two kittens playing. They didn't look very old and was so very different from each other but I knew they were probably littermates and they were very wild.  Anyway I started feeding them and it got to the point where I could just call "here kitty, kitty" when I went out to feed them that they would come and peak at me over the steps and then once I put the food down and I came back into the house they would come running to eat.

This went on for a month or so and then I started getting worried since we live out in the county and we have a snake problem in the summer and I didn't want to take the chance of the kittens getting snake bit since they were living under or deck and house so I got it into my head that I was going to try to catch them and tame them.  I kept hinting to Bobby about what I wanted to do and I knew he thought I was crazy but he did go and buy me a trap and it didn't take me long to trap both of them.  I had a large wire dog crate all ready for them with a litter box and toys in it so as I trapped each one I kind of emptied each into the crate.

Things were pretty bad for a while and I was beginning to think I had made a big mistake after having my hands ripped open pretty bad a couple of times but then I decided to separate them and that is when things started gitting a little better.

After a month or so I started letting the male out of the crate he was in where he could play with Frodo.  I had already been letting Frodo go into the crate with him and play for a while and they really did like each other so I thought I would take a chance with letting him lose in the house.  Then the way I would re-catch him is by putting his food in his crate and when he would go in I would close the door.  I did this for a few weeks and then I decided to just let him stay out.

His sister is a whole different story.  I really don't think she will ever be tamed, I just don't know but she has won Bobby's heart so I know she will be here for life.

Now that you have heard their story more or less I would like you to meet the two newest members of our family.  I also love the Harry Potter books and films as you can tell.

Harry Potter

Harry

Harry

Harry has came a long way from when I first trapped him and his sister but I am not sure he will ever be tame or ever real friendly.  He will now let me pet him at times but he will also still give me a slap if he doesn't want to be messed with.  He is not sure of Bobby at all but I think this is because Bobby works so much and is gone for long periods of time and I am home 24/7 with him.  Harry looks just like his father who I have seen and fed.

Dobby

Now you can see why I said that they are so different.  I think Harry is going to be a pretty large boy and Dobby is pretty small.   As you can tell Dobby and Harry are both Manx and so are their parents.  Where as Harry looks just like his father Dobby looks just like her mother other than the mother is a little lighter in color.

I'm very happy to say that after a lot of work and cut hands Dobby now has the run of the house along with the rest of the kids.

This morning Bobby called me out to the back screened in porch because he heard a kitten crying.  I went out there and I heard it also and to me it sounded like a baby.  We started looking for it and found it in a old trash can.  There was only the one kitten.  I guess the baby is somewhere between 7 and 14 days old.

I know I probably shouldn't have picked it up but I did and I now have the kitten in the house in one of the cat beds in a crate.  It has been over 9 years since I have raised a litter of puppies and the only kitten I have raised on a bottle I use a goat milk mixture that I fed my puppies but I thought if we could find either KMR or Just Born then I would give one of those a try.

The only one of my kids that I have let around the baby is Frodo and he is very interested in the baby.  He just licks the baby all over but when the baby try to nurse on him he isn't that crazy about it.
