Busted

HarryApparently Harry, thinks Lucy can be trusted to keep quiet. Lucy has been charged with aiding and abetting at the kennel where they go for play group. Two weeks in a row, one of the kids that work with the play groups has forgotten to clip the kennel that they put Lucy and Harry in. (They usually switch the four into different groups of two every time they come in from playing.) It seems that Harry has talked Lucy into opening the latch and she was to act as lookout while Harry helped himself to bags of food, dog or cat, it doesn't matter! The first time, the manager walked into the back and Lucy was sitting in the middle of the room..."whistling"...when she noticed the manager walking her way with two dogs, she hurried back to the run, jumped into bed and pretended she was sleeping.  Meanwhile, Harry has his head stuck in a bag of food, making all this racket..mgrumm, mmhmnhmf, runmmn.  Diane, the manager, yells, "Harold, what do you think you're doing?!" but he can't hear her because his head's in the bag and he's making all this racket, and he has no idea that his lookout as left him holding the bag. When Diane puts the new dogs away, she walks over to Harry, "Hey, excuse me!"  To which Harold replies, "Not now, can't you see I'm eating.  Mgrumm, mmhmnhmf, runmmn."  She tried to get his attention again, and Diane could tell he thought about pulling something until he realized who it was..."Yikes, busted!"  The next week the same set up, but Harry was just starting to rip a bag of cat food open and didn't actually get anything. The door doesn't need to be clipped if there's any other pairing, so everyone is sure that Lucy is opening the door at Harry's request.

 Who Let the Dogs Out

DoorOn New Year's Eve 2000, we were watching the countdown on TV.  After the ball dropped, they showed a club in CA where The Baha Men were singing "Who Let the Dogs Out."  All the dogs were sound asleep, but as soon as they sang that line, Harry lifted his head like...wha..? When they sang it again, Harry cautiously walked to the television and stared at it. They sang it again ~ he ran down the stairs and out the dog door, back up the stairs and started barking at the TV! The next time they sang it, he started barking and he was getting real mad! We had tears rolling down our faces. John decided this was too much for poor Harry so he put him to bed and it's a good thing...next the band members got on their hands and knees and lifted their legs...we could just picture Harry marking the TV!  Poor Harry!

Don't Call Me Late for Dinner

BowlWhile John and Brian were on their way to pickup the 65 lb. foxhound known as Jethro from the shelter in Virginia, I was in touch with the shelter by phone.  The manager wanted me to tell John to remind her to tell him a story about Harry; she didn't want to tell me on the phone.

When John and Brian arrived at the shelter, 65 lb. Jethro turned out to be 44 lb. Harry...but that's not the story.  It seems that a volunteer at the shelter let Harry get loose one morning, and he ran off into the woods.  The staff was very upset, thinking they'd never see him again.  Later that afternoon, the staff was amazed to see the animal control truck coming down the road toward the shelter, and trotting behind the truck was Harry!  It seems he had come running out of the woods several miles back and followed the truck all the way to the shelter, just in time for dinner.
