Welcome to Hobo Haven! We are a somewhat crazy family that shares our hearts and our home with a motley bunch of canine kids, a couple of feral cats, and in the past, a bunny or two. In addition to our permanent family members, we usually have a full house with foster dogs from a local shelter or rescue, including Foxhound Relocation and Retirement, a small rescue we helped found in 2003.When we first moved to our rural New Hampshire property, the only four-legged family member was our rabbit, Howard. That soon changed however, on the day of our closing, we discovered that there were two families of feral cats living in our barn. We set about trapping the cats, having them checked for FIV, spayed or neutered, and vaccinated, and then releasing them in our barn. We then set about finding a dog to add to our family; we found Hobo, a stray, at the Concord SPCA. Soon Hobo needed a friend, and the family continued to grow. Most of the dogs that have lived here have had multiple homes. They were considered hard to place because of behavior and/or health problems, age, or because they were a breed that "doesn't make a good pet." All we know is how much they have added to our family; we can't imagine life without them. We have FUN!
If you are looking for a canine family member, please visit your local shelter or contact a rescue group. Not every dog is right for every family, but there are lots of great dogs that are passed by because they are not a toy breed or Golden Retriever or a puppy. The dog that you walked by because it needed some training or was too old, could have been the best friend you ever had. |
